1. Choose a (realistic) goal that truly excites you

Firstly, set a goal that grips your heart and actually makes you want to get outside. Excitement is what gets you through early mornings, howling wind or rain, and those moments of “I really don’t feel like it.”

Secondly—and this part matters—keep it realistic. Don’t decide you’re suddenly running 50km a week when you’ve never managed more than 5km. And don’t promise to gym every day when your membership card still looks brand new. Less is more. Make your goal achievable so you can stick to it.

A better starting point might be three runs a week (5–10km), done consistently for a month before adding more. Commit to one strength or gym session a week, and maybe even join a Pilates class too. Progress comes from consistency, not heroic intentions.

2. Don’t chase growth alone

Uncertainty is part of growth, but you don’t have to face it alone. Find a running buddy, a gym buddy, or better yet… a coach from AlpasFit. Join a run club, show up to community runs, and most importantly, keep the journey fun.

It’s not only about the end result—that’s just the cherry on top. The real magic happens in the process.

3. Focus on habits, not just outcomes

Goals are great, but habits are what get you there. Instead of only focusing on race day or a finish time, focus on what you can do this week. Laying out your kit the night before, showing up when it’s inconvenient, and getting outside even when the session isn’t perfect all count.

Small, repeatable habits build confidence—and confidence is what carries you forward when motivation dips.
